Hurricane Mitch hit on Guatemalan territory on October 26, first affecting the northwestern part of the country. It later affected the southeast, the west and the capital. This caused the overflow of rivers, landslides, erosion, and floods. The capital city was practically isolated by collapse and floods on the major highways that connect it to the rest of the country.
