Children at Risk Statistics

• Over 21,000 children die each day (over 7.6 million per year) – most from preventable causes.

• One million children die from malaria every year.

• 163,000 children die from measles every year.

• One fourth of all children live in poverty.

• About 150 million children are homeless, vulnerable to exploitation and abuse.

• Nearly one third of all children are malnourished.

• Nearly one in five children do not have access to clean drinking water.

• More than 130 million children – mostly girls – do not attend school; millions more receive very little education.

• There are an estimated 163 million orphans worldwide. Some have lost one parent, some both, and some are "virtual" orphans that have been turned out onto the streets by their families.

• 33% of the world’s street children have some kind of disability.

• In the developing world, nearly 40% of all children under five fail to reach their potential in cognitive development because of poverty, poor health and nutrition and deficient care.

• Two million children are subjected to prostitution in the global commercial sex trade.

• Child brides (girls married before age 18) number more than 60 million worldwide. Pregnancy is the leading cause of death worldwide for girls ages 15 to 19.

• 1.2 billion children/youth under the age of 15; 85% come to Jesus between the ages of 4-14.

• 500 million children have no toilet facilities and are longer than a 15 minute walk to a reliable water source, clean or otherwise.

• 31 of the 42 schools in Carrollton Farmers Branch ISD are Title 1, which means that at a minimum 40% of the students must be low-income for the school to qualify for additional government funds.

• There are 26,000 children a year that age out of foster care in the U.S. 1/3 of those will end up homeless.

• The number of children in foster care in the US would fill the new Dallas Cowboys Stadium-100,000

• 6 out of 10 kids in Carrollton Farmers Branch ISD can’t afford to eat 3 meals a day.
